Advocates and Supporters... Your Donations are Greatly Appreciated and are put to good use immediately. Thank You !

Your generous donation will be used to purchase Healing Suicidal Veterans books to give away to veterans in crisis, family members in support groups, Community Family Service and Support Centers; and VA run PTSD, TBI centers and Vet Centers supporting family readjustment counseling. I reach out to veterans' living in rehabilitation homes, homeless shelters, half-way houses, alcohol and drug treatment centers. I see to it books get in the hands of as many veterans and  families as humanly possible.Your donations also help me pay expenses to advertise the healingsuicidalveterans.com website, in places like online magizines and local papers; and mailings and ads to conduct Free family awareness workshops in communities and to promote 'Lives in the Balance' training seminars for healthcare providers and caregivers. You tell me where you want the money to go. If you want books to go toward a specific need, as mentioned, I will get them there. And,  I will respond back to you telling you where and when they went, in your name.

I have been invited to speak at several conferences like the one I attended in 2009 for Mental Health Association of New York State. But, the expenses for travel and accomodations to conferences like these, around the country, are generally paid by me, on a volunteer basis. I could use your help to answer the call.

Friends and Family of the veteran... I hope you can understand the great need  to get the word out...that there is help, there is hope and there is treatment for our mentally disabled warriors. We need to reachout and find them...many of our battle torn combat veterans don't come out of hiding, tormented by their mental health disorders such as PTSD and TBI and substance abuse and homelessness; alcohol and drug addiction is a huge problem for returning vets;  impacting their families. One life lost to suicide is one too many...please help me reachout! Many recent 2010 news articles and independent studies continue to report that suicide continues to plaque our communities; and veteran suicide is increasing on a daily basis.  Thank you for caring...for listening.

A Look Inside

Veterans are suffering a "mental breakdown" epidemic, often linked to post-traumatic stress from the terrors of combat, traumatic brain injury and drug and alcohol abuse.

The problems triggered by an excessive number of deployments, financial and family trouble, fragmented or nonexistent support systems and increased domestic stress have caused a mass depression among veterans. Healing Suicidal Veterans takes readers firsthand into the "situation room" where Vic explores the psychological wounds of war and the ways they contribute to the tragedy of suicidal veterans. Vic presents his "Montgomery Model" for ending veterans' suffering and anguish and putting them on solid paths to healing.

What solutions do my book "Healing Suicidal Veterans" offer YOU?

I present "heart-to-heart resuscitation" for suicidal veterans in torment and distress.

Healing Suicidal Veterans gives the veteran, families and loved ones the tools necessary to recognize suicidal signs and symptoms, including intervention for alcohol and drug abuse and the "how-to-steps" and resources of where to go to find support to get their veteran to safety. The book explores the psychological as well as the soul wounds of war trauma and the ways they contribute to the tragedy of suicidal thinking. The book offers veterans strategies for realizing they are not failures if they seek help, and it gives families and loved ones ways to understand, cope with and help their veteran in need.

Why Crisis Intervention?

A crisis can refer to any situation in which the veteran perceives a sudden loss of his or her ability to use effective problem-solving and coping skills; or a loss of identity.

Crisis intervention has several purposes. Intervention aims to reduce the intensity of a veteran’s emotional, mental, physical and behavioral reaction to a crisis. It offers immediate, short-term help to vets who experience an event or events that produces emotional, mental, physical, and behavioral distress or problems beyond their ability to cope. Another purpose is to help veterans return to their level of functioning before the crisis.

The Goal

Most veterans with thoughts of suicide do not require hospitalization and respond well to outpatient treatment. Intervention, teaching, training and educating family and friends and seeking their support is an important aspect of suicide intervention. Individual therapy, family therapy, substance abuse treatment, and/or psychiatric medication may be recommended.
